SOJÃO, a basketball team from Santa Rosa, in the northwest of the state, confirmed its presence in the Adult State Championship of 2020. The announcement occurred in a virtual meeting of the Rio Grande do Sul Basketball Federation last week. The championship will take place in November, and the first phase will be held in Santa Rosa.
The competition will be held in two phases, plus the final. The first phase will take place on October 31, November 1 and 2 in Santa Rosa, the second on November 6, 7 and 8 in Santa Cruz do Sul, and the final on November 21 and 22 in Caxias do Sul. The championship will have the participation of six teams, namely SOJÃO (Santa Rosa), Caxias Basquete (Caxias do Sul), UNICO (Santa Cruz), Arranca (Cruz Alta), LUBA (Uruguaiana) and Clube Comercial (Passo Fundo). The teams will participate in the qualifying phases with the exception of Caxias, which, for playing the NBB, will only enter the Final Four phase, disputing with the three best placed.
The president of SOJÃO, Betuel Sauer, highlights that the games will be held following a security protocol. “The Gaúcha Federation formed a technical committee of doctors to organize the health protocol for the championship, which is 99% agreed, with only the Federation’s approval and confirmation from each city that will host the event”, says Betuel. He adds that probably the games will not have the presence of the fans, and that the team is already practically closed.
“There are only a few signings left to finish. Training should start next week and continue until the beginning of the championship ”, concludes the president. The “Sonho de Gigantes” project is a realization of SOJÃO Basquete Clube, which has the funding of the Pro Esporte RS, the Sports Incentive Law RS and the State Secretariat for Sport and Leisure (State Government of RS), recently approved.
